I recently finished a commissioned painting for my friend Jo. She bought a lovely house a couple of months ago and commissioned a large piece for her living room wall. As usual when photographing large paintings, I have trouble showing the fine detail in the main photograph, so I’ve taken a couple of close-up shots for you too.

Huge thanks to Jo for commissioning this piece - I thoroughly enjoyed working on it!

I am now accepting commissions for the months of August and September, so please contact me if you’d like more information or a price list.

Other than that, I’m off to London for six days to work with Leon on the London Project, so I’ll see you when I get back! :D

I am currently featured on www.oitzarisme.ro, a website run by Constantin Nimigean. He discovered my artwork, and then contacted me to ask whether it would be ok to feature my work on his site. The website is dedicated to art, photography etc…basically he features work he really likes. It’s worth checking out as there’s some fantastic stuff on there! I’m honoured he decided to show my work too. Here’s a screenshot; if you’d like to see the whole feature please click here: www.oitzarisme.ro/index.php/2008/06/22/natasha-newton/.

Just thought I’d share these with you - screenshots of a couple of places my work has recently been featured on the internet. My thanks to those involved - I appreciate it!

My art is now featured on this website. They found me on deviantART, and are currently using my portrait painting ‘Thoughts Of Yesterday’ on the homepage (second row down).

My art accompanies a written article on ‘hypersonic sound technology’.

This one came as a complete surprise to me and I only found it purely by chance after ‘Googling’ my name the other day. I like to Google myself occasionally because I’m constantly surprised at the amount of stuff on the internet featuring my art that has nothing to do with me (meaning: I didn’t put it there!). Sometimes when people feature my work they will write to tell me, but often they don’t, so this is the only way I find out about it! Anyway, this blog/site is very nicely designed, and I was pleased at the 12 pieces they’d chosen to feature. I think it looks great!

Under the heading: ‘Well Defined: Natasha Newton’, they have written this:

Just some clear and well defined eye candy. Natasha’s world is maybe like we try to see ours - well defined and outlined, clear and simple. Ours is, obviously, not such a world. Is Natasha’s world like this?

When you click on the thumbnails, they appear on the screen like this. Niiiiiiiiiice. :D

I now have some new paintings at Serena Hall Gallery in Southwold, Suffolk. The large piece I finished just the other day which is based on the Peak District, ‘Quiescent Landscape’, is among them. So please go and visit the gallery if you’re in the area; it’s much better to view the art in reality rather than via a computer screen! :D

As you may know from the previous blog entry, I’ve started to work on deep-edge wood panels as well as canvas. I’m really enjoying working on wood, and now I’ve finally perfected the technique I’m very happy with the subtle texture and depth these pieces have, so I’ll definitely be painting on wood a lot more in the future!

I finished this piece today; it’s now available for sale through my Etsy store, or directly from me for the Etsy price (just message me if you’re interested).

I finally finished a wood panel painting! It’s so different to working on canvas, but after much trial and error I’m happy with the result…and it’s a portrait…and I’ve written a Haiku especially for it! So three new things (kind of). :)

This painting will shortly be for sale in my Etsy store: www.natashacinnamon.etsy.com

I finally finished the large landscape! It took a little longer than I anticipated, but I’m very pleased with how it turned out. It was worth the extra time I spent on it, and it’s now one of my favourite pieces. It is currently available for sale, but I think I’m going to find it hard to part with this one! I am going to offer it to my mailing list members first, and if it doesn’t sell this way I will then consider whether I want to take it to a gallery or maybe even keep it. But I really want people to see this piece in reality as it’s so much better than viewing it via a computer screen, so I think it’s likely I will exhibit it in the future if it doesn’t sell immediately. If I keep it for myself very few people will see it - and that’s not really the point of art; it needs to get out into the world!

Anyway, this piece is based on the landscape of the Peak District in the North of England. I love the variety of colours there; it’s either very green and hilly, or full of rusts, violets, and browns when you really get up high and find that the ground is covered in heather.

I’m trying to push myself this year when it comes to trying out new ideas, new subjects, or new sizes of canvas. I really enjoyed working on this scale and hope to make more large paintings in the future. They are difficult to photograph though, mainly because the canvas is so large I have to take the photo from a distance, and in doing so I can’t capture the small, intricate details which really make these pieces. So please bear in mind that the photos are nothing like seeing the painting in reality, but I hope you can at least get some idea of the finished piece from these images! I’m also posting some ‘close up’ shots of various sections here as well, so you can see the fine detail and texture which makes up the painting.

…at the new 31.5×31.5″ canvas I’m working on, based on the landscape of the Peak District. This is the stage it was at, at 5pm on Wednesday 21st May. I’m nearing the completion of the fields, and will soon start adding all of the details - the house and the intricate little trees dotted here and there (I noticed that there don’t seem to be many trees, generally speaking, in the Peak District. In Suffolk they seem to be everywhere, in clusters, but in the Peaks you just see the odd one here and there - they look kind of lonely!).

A new painting. It’s currently available for sale, so please contact me if you’re interested in purchasing it. Got to go - very busy today working on the largest painting of my life!

I recently finished these paintings, and will be posting more new work soon. Patchwork Hills (the most recent piece) is inspired by the hills and landscape of the Peak District. I was on holiday there for a few days at the end of April, and returned full of ideas for new paintings!
